About Sue Mickolwin
The Heart Behind Autism In My Wheelhouse™
My Story, Your Journey - Rooted in Connection
I didn’t begin this journey as an expert. My first real connection with autism happened by chance while volunteering in a classroom. A young boy didn’t speak or make eye contact, yet something about him drew me in. I responded by mirroring his movements, meeting him in his world. In that moment, something shifted. I realized communication is more than words, and that connection starts with observation, presence, and trust.
That moment set me on a path I couldn’t have predicted.
For over 30 years, I’ve worked directly with individuals with autism, in homes, schools, as a provincial autism consultant, and as an Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) facilitator. I helped children transition from therapy into school and supported families who felt overwhelmed by the systems meant to help them.
What I saw, again and again, was that parents were being sidelined when they should have been leading.
That’s why I created the Autism In My Wheelhouse™ system: a structured, visual, 8-level tool that helps parents think, problem-solve, and plan with clarity and confidence.
I’ve used this system with hundreds of families. It brings order to chaos and reminds parents that their voice matters deeply. It gives them a seat at the table, and a roadmap to lead with calm, purpose, and power.
You’ve always had the power. Now you have a system.
“In my wheelhouse” simply means “in my area of expertise.”
By using the In My Wheelhouse™ system, I can confidently say that autism is in my wheelhouse, in my area of expertise.
My goal is to help you reach the point where you can say with confidence: autism is in your wheelhouse too.
